We’ve all had experiences where we felt empowered - whether listening to a motivational speaker or attending an inspiring conference. These experiences, while evoking strong emotion, often create only short-lived change.
To create long-term change in our lives, we must make the effort to look outside of ourselves each day. We must familiarize ourselves with the needs of our community to determine what actions we can take and what causes we can support that will have the most impact.
It starts with us. We can’t do everything, but we can make a difference.

The Quad Cities Investment Group team was honored to participate in Family Resources’ Annual Adopt a Family Program. As a team we adopted 2 families and helped make their holiday brighter this year. Family Resources Adopt a Family program connects people with families in need to share the spirit of the season, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of belonging during the holiday.
Family Resources is a 501©3 nonprofit organization that provides services to support a safe, healthy, and inclusive community.

Amy Kolner of the Quad Cities Investment Group team presented Junior Achievement’s Our City program to a group of 22 third grade students. Students learned the choices we have with money and the importance of the choices we make.
Junior Achievement is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures and to make educated economic and academic choices. Junior Achievement’s goal is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

Financial advisors, Mark Grywacheski and Jeremy Hauer from the Quad Cities Investment Group team participated in the 19th Annual Hammond Henry Hospital Foundation Golf Outing. Funds raised from the outing will be used to help purchase a portable ultrasound for surgical services. Quad Cities Investment Group was thrilled to sponsor the event and be involved in a fun and worthwhile cause.
Hammond Henry Hospital Foundation exists for the benefit of Hammon-Henry Hospital in Geneseo, Illinois. The Foundation helps the hospital grow to meet the needs of the health care community. Hammond Henry Hospital has provided medical care to Geneseo and surrounding communities since 1901 and employes over 400 people.

Quad Cities Investment Group had the honor of being the Presenting Sponsor for the Davenport Schools Foundation Scholarship Reception on May 22, 2023. More than $95,000 worth of scholarships were awarded to 46 Davenport students to assist in their post-secondary education plans.
The Davenport Schools Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to provide resources to enhance the District’s educational environment to help students pursue their full potential. The Davenport Community School District is the third largest district in the State of Iowa and employs more than 2,000 education professionals to teach nearly 14,000 students in our community.

As President of the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation, Dave Borcherding, welcomed guests to two separate evenings of scholarship presentations in May. Over 135 scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors to help pursue their post-secondary educational opportunities.
The Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation supports the ideals of the district by providing supplemental assistance to the students, staff, and programs of the Pleasant Valley Community School District beyond what is provided by regular district resources. With approximately 400 teachers and 5,500 students, the Pleasant Valley Community School District’s goal is to have the finest academic and extra-curricular programs in the state for all students.

With this year’s theme of “Build It,” Laura was excited to share as a panelist for the “Breaking the Ground” session of the third annual QC Black Business Expo and Summit. Organized by the QC Empowerment Network, the Expo is the only event in the Quad Cities region that is designed to specifically highlight black-owned local businesses and showcase the rich diversity of the area’s small business community. The QC Empowerment Network is a collaborative initiative created for and by black Quad-Citizens to connect our community across all divides.

Laura was the keynote speaker for the Internet of Things Conference 2017, organized by Tri-City Electric Co.and Shared IT and held at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf. Her presentation, titled "The Battle for our Connectedness," explored the massive potential, as well as the dangers, that exist as all things in our physical world become connected to the Internet.

As a member of Braking Traffik's advisory board, Laura will be leading a brief discussion on human trafficking after the September 9th showing of this new play by Aaron Randolph III. Produced in collaboration with Braking Traffik, Broken focuses on the life of a young woman whose first romance leads to a nightmarish world of confusion, desperation, and violence. With the protagonist's former and present selves enacted by two different actresses, Broken follows the actions and choices of this young woman, her mother, and the significant men in her life over a period of several years, and in the process, delivers a stinging drama that still manages to provide pockets of humor, joy, and hope.

Laura was invited by the Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel to give a presentation on Human Trafficking. She spoke about elements of human trafficking such as what makes someone vulnerable, forms of control used to exploit trafficking victims, and how victims can get help. She also discussed federal and state laws concerning human trafficking, and showed the short documentary “Any Kid Anywhere: Sex Trafficking Survivor Stories.” Click here to watch "Any Kid Anywhere"
Laura is a member of the advisory board for Braking Traffik, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and enabling the discovery of and response to incidents of human sex trafficking through a victim-centered, multidisciplinary, and collaborative community effort.

Quad Cities Investment Group was a proud sponsor of the Rotary for Kids BBQ to benefit Miracle Field- an ambitious undertaking, led by Davenport Parks & Recreation, to create a baseball field specifically designed to be physically accessible and safe for people with disabilities. The Rotary for Kids BBQ was held at Kelly’s Irish Pub in Davenport and included a silent auction, raffle, delicious food, and fun games for the kids. Nearly 500 people attended this event which brought in over $25,000.

As a member of the Iowa Quad City Rotary, Dave once again marshalled the 16th hole at the John Deere Classic this year. This was his 14th year volunteering for the JDC. We’re so proud of Dave and all of the work he does in our community.

As President of the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation, Dave spent the evening of May 10th awarding over $80,000 in scholarships to 79 graduating seniors of Pleasant Valley High School. In his remarks, he acknowledged the problems our world faces today, and went on to state that "every problem creates an opportunity; and opportunities are always looking for solutions that will be created, tested, and implemented by bright, creative, young minds offering fresh perspectives." He voiced his confidence in our future because of the caliber of the young people represented in the audience. We couldn't agree more, and we're so very grateful for the work he does with the Foundation to encourage and empower the young minds in our community.

We are so proud of Jenny, who once again ran the Red Shoe Half Marathon last Sunday, May 7th. The event starts and finishes at the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and raises important funds and awareness for the organization. Rumor has it that at every hill, Jenny yelled "It's a beautiful day for a run!" We feel like this picture may offer a clue as to why she ran with such enthusiasm.

What would you do with $100 to teach financial literacy in your classroom? That's the question we asked educators on both sides of the river during the month of April - Financial Literacy Month. At Quad Cities Investment Group, one of our core initiatives is to inform and inspire people to learn about money and take control of their financial lives. Our Financial Literacy Facebook Challenge ended with surprise visits to 10 educators and their classrooms, awarding them the $100 to implement their ideas. Congratulations Marty Mahieu, Chris Larson, KayCee Cleaveland, Brandi Neer, Supt. Lanty McGuire, Lisa Hatlett, Britta Adams, Susie Vens, Katie Lacina, and Jeanene Keller! Thank you to the Moline Public Schools Foundation and the Davenport Schools Foundation for their help in coordinating this challenge. And a huge shout out to all the educators that participated; we are grateful to have such 'outside-the-box' thinkers working with the kids in our community!
