QC Black Expo and Summit

February 24, 2018

With this year’s theme of “Build It,” Laura was excited to share as a panelist for the “Breaking the Ground” session of the third annual QC Black Business Expo and Summit. Organized by the  QC Empowerment Network, the Expo is the only event in the Quad Cities region that is designed to specifically highlight black-owned local businesses and showcase the rich diversity of the area’s small business community. The QC Empowerment Network is a collaborative initiative created for and by black Quad-Citizens to connect our community across all divides. The event was free and open to the public.

IoT - Internet of Things Conference 2017

September 21, 2017

Laura was the keynote speaker for the Internet of Things Conference 2017, organized by Tri-City Electric Co.and Shared IT and held at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf. Her presentation, titled "The Battle for our Connectedness," explored the massive potential, as well as the dangers, that exist as all things in our physical world become connected to the Internet.

Trains, Planes, & Automobiles Festival

September 7-9, 2017

Make plans to head to Geneseo, IL this Thursday through Saturday (September 7-9) for the 12th annual Trains, Planes, & Automobiles Festival. This is Mark’s second year as Chairman for the annual event which includes a fly-in of iconic WWII Stearman biplanes, historic tours along the Hennepin Canal, operating antique model train displays, and a car show that draws participants from across the Midwest. Broken: A new play by Aaron Randolph III

August 25 – September 17, 2017

As a member of Braking Traffik's advisory board, Laura will be leading a brief discussion on human trafficking after the September 9th showing of this new play by Aaron Randolph III. Produced in collaboration with Braking Traffik, Broken focuses on the life of a young woman whose first romance leads to a nightmarish world of confusion, desperation, and violence. With the protagonist's former and present selves enacted by two different actresses, Broken follows the actions and choices of this young woman, her mother, and the significant men in her life over a period of several years, and in the process, delivers a stinging drama that still manages to provide pockets of humor, joy, and hope.
